If you love chemistry, there's no way if would dislike the organic part.. In organic chemistry, either you are a champ or a novice, there's nothing like intermediate. And if you understand it well, you'll fall in love with it. And that too in the first sight. Actually, it's kinda addictive. (Though it was my weaker part, I did quite okay in exams). Coming to the point- How to actually prepare to pro level of organic chemistry.
See, the GOLDEN rule for organic chemistry is PRACTICE!! You'll start off with the basic concepts of organic, which is a very important chapter. NEVER learn stuff in organic chemistry, instead understand the mechanisms.. Understanding mechanisms is the most crucial part in organic chemistry.
Once you get what's going on and how it's going on, you'll be all set.. As far is learning is concerned, learn the standard reactions of each chapter. But for JEE, it's near useless. Every time you have to apply your brains to carry out a certain reaction by applying 2-3 mechanisms all at same time simultaneously. In JEE, you will find a different reaction every year so it's better to UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING AND NOT LEARN ANYTHING. Pay attention to General Organic Chemistry as it is the most important chapter in organic chemistry. Look at what any certain reactants plus the catalysts do and pay extra attention to the exceptions.. Generally exceptions are the one that are asked in exams. See, this time it's no use giving chapterwise tips because the whole organic chemistry is like a big single chapter in which everything is interconnected. The basic fundamental is to see and understand the nature of reactants and practice hard.. You should practice not less than 2500 questions for a sound understanding of organic chemistry and more if you really want to master it beyond JEE level.. And yes the questions should be of good quality, not some easy 1 sec ones. Practice hard and yes, KEEP REVISING! The biggest mistake you can do is to study it ones and forget it. And since here, everything is interconnected, it'll be more deadly if you forget even a single link. Revise and practice. That's it!! And obviously you'll be facing too many doubts (everyone faces) but remember- not even one of them should go uncleared.. No matter how silly your doubt is, just clear it. Because the same doubt can ruin your whole exam. Teacher, book, friends Consider anything and everything just be clear.. Himanshu Pandey advanced problems in organic chemistry is a good book.. Complete it if you can and that would be enough! Don't go for too many books for theory.. Learn theory from teacher and not from a book.. It's a much better way.. And practice.... That's it..

Isn't there any good book for theory??
ReplyDeleteBooks don't help much in theory.. But if you want you can use cengage organic chemistry. That book is good but it's VERY detailed so do it only if you have ample time..
Deletewell interesting post..
ReplyDeleteu see i m not die for jee aspirant. but want 95 in boards and 250 in mains. in organic i want to do ncert though i hav joined fiitjee hav all material but i am not able to solve difficult one and i hav only 9 month left and hav to study almost everything. school going candidate so hav to manage time as well and i am same person who requested that post.. which means i get demotivated and depressed easily. so i only want to focus on getting 250 in mains. so will NCERT ORGANIC PAST YEAR AIEEE PAPER enough for organics?
