(First read about the tools and techniques here, then come to this post, otherwise it's of no use)
(I will also discuss whether you should give improvement exam of class 12th or not later in this post!)
This post should be the strongest one from my side, as I, being a dropper myself know what all it takes to make this decision(taking a drop) the best decision of your life! It's gonna be tough, very tough indeed, to be honest! That's why this post.. I'll try to throw light on all the mistakes, carelessness or any unknown blunder that you may commit and be protected.. You'll read about the things you can do to boost up your results, which normally people realize after they have wasted 2-3 months.. So take the most from here guys!
Note that I am assuming you did NOTHING in your 11th and 12th. If you've studied in 11th and 12th, then you definitely have an edge.. So I'm gonna categorize this post in two categories:
[i] For those who have just started their drop year..
[ii] For those who have wasted half of their drop year..
FIRST A COMMON WORD OF ADVICE FOR BOTH THE ABOVE CATEGORIES..
Innumerable mouths are are waiting for this year to get over and all ready to criticize you for your decision of taking a drop.. It's your duty to shut'em up! Time is the most important entity that you possess! Utilize it well and you are all set to excel. No matter how much time you wasted, forget it.. Never ever regret.. Start right now, because it can be covered up.. Never do the mistake of doing many things.. Just one and repeat it.
Repetition is what will make you perfect.. Study smart, not in deep.. Don't practice too much of anything. Do less and repeat more.. That's the key! Because renewing is more important than constantly learning new things. Stick to basics and don't go to much advanced topics.. Basics will fetch you the desired results, not those useless lengthy problems.. So use your time well.. and obviously try to keep distractions away as much as possible.
#1 : FOR THOSE WHO HAVE JUST STARTED THEIR DROP YEAR..
Well, it would be wrong to say that you have much time! No.. You don't .. Your aim should be to complete the full syllabus of 11th and 12th with utmost efficiency! Just keep in mind to do the topics 'to the point' and avoid going deep into the subject.. It'll be of no use. Be smart.. Do one thing nicely and completely as I've said before. And move on to repetition.. The more you repeat, firmly the concepts are stored in your mind.. It's obvious that you'll have to study daily 3-4 hours more than a fresher to match him.. But that's why you took a drop. Don't fear to do extra hard work.. Many times droppers make a mistake of doing 2-3 topics at a time which is total nonsense.. Yes you've studied it before but that doesn't mean you should pay less attention to it.. STUDY EVERYTHING AS IF YOU ARE DOING SO FOR THE FIRST TIME! ITS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO LEARN.. Do everything like a 12th class guy, just increase your study hours, do regular constant revision and be regular plus have a fixed routine- that's very important!
#2 : FOR THOSE WHO HAVE WASTED HALF OF THEIR DROP YEAR..
As I always say, it doesn't matter what has happened.. Never regret.. Okay! The worst thing you can do to yourself is regretting about the time you wasted.. Start right now. Think no more.. You still can do it.. I've seen people doing so.. It's good that you don't have the pressure of board exams.. (unless obviously you are giving improvement exam!).. In this condition, students generally panic and try to cram things and that too many topics at a time.. Worse that is.. Do one thing at a time I am saying again. Even, don't try to complete anything too early.. It'll only harm you. Yes, time is less, but it's not over.. One of my friend said once - One month is bigger than 10 months if you have that spirit in you.. So yeah! Give first preference to major topics like mechanics, algebra, physical chemistry and study smart. Study less and practice more and more and repeat more and more.. Try to cover high weightage topics and practice them nicely plus keep revising everything once in a while!
SHOULD YOU GIVE IMPROVEMENT EXAM FOR CLASS 12th..
This is the doubt of many dropper students whether to give class 12th exams once again to improve your boards percentage.. Well, according to me, it'll be a devastating decision 90% of times. So my straight answer in NO! Generally students think that why not should they improve everything when they are taking a drop.. This mentality is good but the outcomes are not always right! Apply for improvement only if you are ineligible for any exam or not in top 20 percentile or something like that! Applying just for the sake of improving board percentage or for normalization of JEE Mains is not a good idea.. The reason is, the board preparations will eat up your time which was meant for last time JEE revision.. And it REALLY matters! Believe me.. The starting 8-9 months decide your selection and the last 2 months decide your rank.. So apply for improvement only if it's damn necessary, otherwise NOT!!
